The 26-year-old won silver in the event at the Olympics Rio 2016 but was unable to go one better at the Aquatics Centre as Xie Siyi of China took gold. Laugher was in the medal places throughout but his third and fourth dives didn’t do enough to impress the judges. The Team GB diver finished with 518.00 points as Xie (558.75) and fellow Chinese competitor Wang Zongyuan (534.90) took the top two spots.
After it was clear the Brit had won Bronze, Mr Laugher looked to the camera in sheer amazement.
The 26-year-old said: “I love you mum, I love you dad!”
He gave a big smile and blew kisses towards the camera.
The commentator added: “Jack is back and mixing with the best in the world!”
While British diver Chris Mears, said: “Coming back from the defeat that was earlier in the week it must have been really difficult.
“And I think to have put threee performances out there with minor to no mistakes is awesome.”
Speaking of Jack’s Chinese competitors, he said: “They were pretty unbeatable today.
“Jack was hot on their heals but they didn’t falter, they didn’t show any signs of being shaken!”
