NFL icon Tony Romo under fire for "creepy" comments over Tom Brady’s wife Gisele

NFL legend Tony Romo has been branded "creepy" by fans online over a joke he made about Tom Brady's wife Gisele Bundchen during the Buccaneers' win over Chicago Bears.

Tampa Bay ran out 38-3 winners against the Bears in a match which saw Brady register the 600th touchdown pass of his glittering career.

After catching the historic pass in the first quarter, Buccaneers star Mike Evans gave the match ball to a fan in the crowd who was wearing one of his jerseys.

Due to the significance of the pass, a member of the Buccaneers coaching staff desperately tried to convince the spectator to give the ball back.

As those negotiations played out Romo, working as an NFL commentator on a live CBS broadcast, made a controversial joke about Brady's model wife Bundchen.

Pretending to narrate the exchange, the former quarterback acted as the fan and said: “A date with Gisele. A date with Gisele and I’m in."

He then acted as the Buccaneers staff and said: “OK, Tom will do it. One time, you got it."

Romo's remark about Bundchen divided opinion on social media, with some hitting out at the commentator over his "weird" comments.

One wrote on Twitter: "Tony Romo suggesting Brady trade a date with his wife for his 600th TD ball is just weird/borderline creepy. Dude is a good broadcaster but so awkward sometimes".

Another fan put: “I don’t think what Romo said was funny. It was tasteless. But that’s just me."

While one asked: "Did Tony Romo just pimp out Tom Brady’s wife?"

Not all fans took offence with Romo's joke, however, as another user wrote: "That was a lighthearted joke because she’s a super model. That’s all that is. Relax people. Sometimes you really need to examine intent."

While one said: "This is hilarious, this is one of the reasons [why I] like Romo in the broadcast booth."

After lengthy discussions, the fan in question eventually gave the ball back after becoming aware that Brady personally wanted it returned.

According to CBS, he accepted this offer from the Buccaneers staff member: two signed Brady jerseys and a helmet; one signed Evans jersey and the cleats he wore in the game; a $1,000 gift card to the team store; and Buccaneers season tickets for the rest of 2021 and all of 2022.
