Oscar De La Hoya has randomly taken shots at Eddie Hearn, accusing the Matchroom boss of ruining Anthony Joshua’s career while receiving a face massage from his girlfriend.
De La Hoya, head of Golden Boy Promotions which he founded in 2002, was reacting to Hearn’s show last weekend at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which was headlined by Joshua and Ukrainian star Oleksandr Usyk.
In front of 65,000 fans, Usyk comfortably defeated Hearn’s very own golden boy to claim the WBA, WBA, IBF and IBO world titles while leaving hopes of a blockbuster all-British clash with Tyson Fury dangling by a thread.
While reacting on a livestream, De La Hoya pretended not to know Hearn’s name while criticising his work.
“I’ll tell you one thing the, uh…” the former six-weight world champion said before appearing to ask for name confirmation from model girlfriend Holly Sonders.
“Joshua versus Usyk, which nobody saw in the US because…what’s the promoter that doesn’t know how to…that has no clue of what to do in the US?
“I think his name is Hearn or something,” De La Hoya continues.
Sonders, a sports presenter, suggested the wrong name: “Oh, Thomas Hearn?”

“Yeah, Thomas Hearn,” De La Hoya confirms before appearing to address the 42-year-old directly.
“Thomas Hearn…stay in the UK. Promote your fights. You have no clue what you are doing in the US. DAZN is doing the right thing by sticking with Golden Boy.
“Stay away from the US,” De La Hoya warned.
The 48-year-old concluded his odd and unwarranted outburst at Hearn by taking aim at how he has handled Joshua’s career: “He does not know how to promote in America.
“Usyk crowned himself world champion and Eddie Hearn ruined Joshua’s career.”
The video posted by De La Hoya is odd as the former boxer is receiving a face massage from Sonders while he is speaking to the camera.

De La Hoya’s rant is particularly strange as he refers to Hearn as both Thomas and Eddie, so he obviously knows who he is. The American also must know who the Matchroom boss is as he is arguably the biggest figure behind British boxing.
He has also worked with Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who is ranked as the world’s best pound for pound active boxer by a number of publications including BoxRec, The Ring, ESPN and the Boxing Writers Association of America.
De La Hoya could be stung that he missed out on Canelo, who – while not directly signing with Matchroom – has allowed his last few fights to be promoted by Hearn’s firm. They are collaborating once more for the Mexican’s upcoming unification bout with Caleb Plant in Las Vegas on November 6.
Golden Boy Promotions secured an exclusive deal with DAZN to broadcast the fights of lightweight and welterweight contenders Ryan Garcia and Vergil Ortiz – but Matchroom have a similar deal with the streaming company.
In July, Matchroom extended their contract with DAZN another five years for a reported $135million.
