UFC star suffers gruesome injury from elbow to head – but goes on to win bout

UFC star Danny Roberts suffered a gruesome scalp injury during his bout with Ramazan Emeev, after the Russian fighter landed a brutal elbow to the Englishman’s head on Saturday night.

Roberts was back in the ring for the first time in two years to take on welterweight veteran Emeev and, despite the severe gash to the head, the Englishman went on to win the fight on points.

The 34-year-old from Croydon suffered the injury part way through the second round of his bout with the Russian, but despite the blood gushing from his head he bravely fought on to earn victory in Las Vegas.

Following the fight images emerged of Roberts’ gruesome injuries, as they showed the fighter's scalp had split down to the bone.

Understandably the Englishman went on to receive treatment after his win, with a number of stitches required to piece the large open wound back together.

After his victory the Londoner featured on the UFC Europe Instagram page, where he was seen thanking his family, friends and fans for helping him get back into the octagon.

He said: “To all my fans, friends and family, I love the support you have given me.

“The continued support and just sticking with me. We’ve had two years out of the game and I’ve felt nothing but love all this past five weeks.

“I’m one of the only UK fighters that have been on the card so yeah, I thank you all.”

Will Danny Roberts continue his winning form in 2022? Let us know in the comments section below.

Roberts headed into the octagon in Vegas as the underdog with the bookmakers, largely down to his two-year absence.

The 34-year-old had not fought since his second round knockout win against another Russian opponent in Zelim Imadaev in November 2019.

Saturday’s opponent Emeev was also on the very same card just over two years ago, as he lost to American Anthony Martin on points that evening.

Since then the Russian has fought two more times ahead of last weekend’s bout, proving victorious in both as he defeated German pair Niklas Stolze and David Zawada both on points in 2020.

The two faced off in Las Vegas on the undercard, as women featherweight’s Aspen Ladd and Norma Dumont headlined the card on Saturday.

Dumont was set to take on UFC veteran Holly Holm, however the MMA star was forced to pull out of the bout late on due to a knee injury.

Despite the late change in opponent it did not seem to faze the Brazilian, as she went on to secure the win thanks to a unanimous decision over Ladd.
