The New York Jets have been warned by one-time Super Bowl winner, Michael Robinson, that the trade of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could set the franchise back “five or six years”. Rodgers, 39, is weighing up retirement, joining the Jets or returning to the Green Bay Packers for a 19th season.
The Jets reportedly also have a few hurdles to get over before landing Rodgers, with a restructured contract and a compensation package with the Packers yet to be agreed, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. The franchise have also reportedly been given a four-man wishlist of free agents from Rodgers that he’d like them to sign – with Odell Beckham Jr the eye-catching inclusion.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini tweeted: “Aaron Rodgers has provided the NY Jets with a wish-list of free agents he would like them to target and acquire, per sources. It includes Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Marcedes Lewis and … Odell Beckham Jr.”
However, former fullback Robinson has warned that the Jets could be giving up too much power to Rodgers, and say his trade could set the franchise back “five or six years” – despite his undeniable MVP quality. Robinson says allowing Rodgers to bring in his own team “sets a terrible precedent”.

Speaking on the NFL Network, Robinson said: “Yes, the fact that everybody has been saying this Jets team is just a quarterback away and then when you feel like you’ve identified the quarterback – the quarterback wants to bring his squad and his guys onto the team as well, to me I think you’re setting a terrible precedent. I think you’re giving one man a little bit too much power in an organisation and he’s a player, for that matter.”
The ex-Seattle Seahawks ace then drew comparisons of the Jets going all in on Rodgers to what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did with seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. Robinson added: “I think that if they bring Aaron Rodgers on, this sets this organisation back at least five or six years.”

A potential update on Rodgers’ NFL career is predicted to come in Wednesday’s 1pm ET (5pm GMT) interview on The Pat McAfee Show. But Rodgers’ expected appearance has seen him slammed in several quarters with one brutal claim comparing him to NBA icon LeBron James, who in 2010 took part in a TV special called ‘The Decision’, which saw him announce that he would be signing with the Miami Heat instead of returning to his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“This man REALLY loves this attention,” Enquirer journalist David Wysong tweeted. “If Aaron Rodgers announces his decision on Pat McAfee’s show, y’all better have the same energy you had toward LeBron when he took his talents to South Beach.”
