Where is ‘College GameDay’ this week? Location, schedule, guest picker for Week 8 on ESPN

For the first time all season, “College GameDay” is taking on a West Coast flair. It’s heading to Pasadena, Calif., for the meeting between No. 10 Oregon and unranked UCLA.

This will be the first game Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, David Pollack and Co. previews out of the Pac-12 this season, and the first one in four weeks that doesn’t involve a southern team.

Saturday’s meeting between the Ducks and Bruins isn’t without College Football Playoff implications. Mario Cristobal’s team is the only ranked unit out of the Pac-12 but, at 5-1 on the season, can’t afford to lose another game if it wants a legitimate claim to challenge for the national championship.

UCLA is a surprising 5-2 on the season, though it does have a curious 40-37 loss to Fresno State after coming off a Week 3 bye. Still, quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson looks like one of the better quarterbacks out of the conference, throwing for 1,419 yards and 13 touchdowns to two interceptions on the year. He also has 329 yards and five more scores on the ground.

Oregon hasn’t exactly played up to its ranking recently, losing 31-24 to Stanford in overtime before taking a week off then laying a Friday-night egg against Cal. The Ducks needed a last-second goal-line stand to keep the Golden Bears from sending the game to overtime. To that end, look for Ducks defenders Kayvon Thibodeaux, Justin Flowe and Noah Sewell (81 combined tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and three forced fumbles) to make Thomspon-Robinson’s life miserable.

Here’s everything you need to know as “College GameDay” makes its way to the Rose Bowl:

Where is ‘College GameDay’ location for Week 8?

“GameDay” is making its 22nd appearance at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, though this will be only the second time the game is not involved with the Rose Bowl Game, BCS championship or College Football Playoff. The only regular-season visit from “GameDay” came in 1998, when No. 2 UCLA beat No. 11 Oregon 41-38 in overtime.

UCLA will make its ninth all-time appearance as one of the featured teams on “GameDay,” going 3-5 in its previous eight matchups. Oregon is considerably better represented in the show’s history, going 15-11 in 26 previous appearances. The Ducks also have a 2-1 head-to-head advantage over UCLA in “GameDay” meetings, though both those victories came in Eugene, Ore. They are 0-1 vs. the Bruins in the Rose Bowl.

‘College GameDay’ schedule on ESPN

Davis, Herbstreit, Howard and Pollack will preview Week 8 action live from the Rose Bowl starting at 9 a.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on ABC, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET.

“GameDay” almost certainly will pick between two top-10 meetings of Big Ten teams in Week 9: No. 6 Michigan at No. 9 Michigan State, or No. 7 Penn State at No. 5 Ohio State. Dark horse locations include Jacksonville, Fla., for the neutral-site game between No. 1 Georgia and unranked Florida; and Auburn, Ala., for the ranked meeting between No. 12 Ole Miss and No. 19 Auburn.
