The XFL is nearing the midway point of the season, but before we get there we must first get through Week 4’s games.
On schedule for the first pair of Week 4 matchups are the L.A. Wildcats at N.Y. Guardians and Seattle Dragons at St. Louis BattleHawks. The Wildcats and Guardians are both standing at 1-2, but got there in different ways. The Wildcats lost their first two games, but pulled off a stunning upset over the Defenders in a 39-9 blowout last week. The Guardians looked like a tough defense in Week 1, but their offense has scored a combined nine points over their last two games.
The second matchup of the day will take place in St. Louis, which had a remarkable opening weekend in Week 3. Nearly 30,000 fans showed up to support what appears to be the No. 2 team in the XFL so far. The BattleHawks have relied on a ground-and-pound style of offense, and so far it’s been dominant.
As for the quarterbacks today, Josh Johnson will be leading the Wildcats. He missed Week 1 due to an injury, but the journeyman NFL QB has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks since returning. It’s not clear who will start for the Guardians. Matt McGloin has started every game so far, but he’s been inefficiant. His replacements would be Marquis Williams or Luis Perez.
In the second matchup, we’ll see Brandon Silvers start for the Dragons. He’s shown some promise this year, but turnovers have been brutal. B.J. Daniels is the backup in Seattle, but he has yet to make a game appearance this season. The BattleHawks are led by Jordan Ta’amu, who didn’t have a great statistical performance in Week 3, but has been one of the league’s best at his position so far.
