Lewis Hamilton unfollows everyone on Instagram after F1 title heartbreak

Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton has dramatically unfollowed everyone from his Instagram account after being pipped to the 2021 title by Max Verstappen.

The Mercedes driver was cruelly denied a fifth straight championship when Verstappen overtook him on the final lap of the deciding race in Abu Dhabi.

Intervention from the safety car allowed the Dutch driver to pit and when the race resumed Hamilton, on his worn tyres, was powerless to prevent his title rival from overtaking him.

Despite being five-lapped cars behind Hamilton after pitting, FIA race director Michael Masi controversially instructed the lapped cars to un-lap themselves by virtue of the safety car.

As a result, Verstappen was allowed to line up behind Hamilton when entering the 58th and final lap of the Grand Prix and immediately overtook the Brit at turn five.

Hamilton is yet to break his silence on social media after the race but did congratulate Verstappen after reaching the chequered flag.

Though it appears the seven-time world champion is letting is actions speak for him with the Englishman performing an Instagram cull since his Abu Dhabi defeat.

And having originally lodged multiple appeals against Verstappen's contentious victory, Mercedes have now resigned themselves to the Dutchman winning the championship crown.

The German car company immediately lodged two complaints against the FIA after the race, arguing that Masi had not applied the rules properly.

However, both appeals were rejected with Verstappen officially crowned 2021's Formula 1 champion after receiving his trophy at the FIA's prize-giving ceremony on December 17.
