Toto Wolff and Mercedes have landed themselves in Red Bull’s bad books after the Silver Arrows’ team principal downplayed the achievements of Max Verstappen and the team. The Dutch sensation is simply unstoppable at the moment and set a new F1 record with his tenth successive Grand Prix win last time out at Monza.
Red Bull’s success in 2023 is reaching unprecedented levels. After 14 rounds of the season, the Milton Keynes-based team remain unbeaten in both sprint races and Grands Prix with Verstappen and team-mate Sergio Perez hoovering up every available race win.
Verstappen in particular looks untouchable at the moment. The 25-year-old has already broken Sebastian Vettel’s nine-race win streak record from 2013 and is cruising towards a third consecutive World Championship title. His gap to Checo currently stands at a staggering 145 points.
Despite this success, Wolff has consistently downplayed the achievements of the team. Mercedes’ argument has been that at least when Lewis Hamilton was dominating the sport, he faced a threat from team-mates Nico Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas, albeit to a lesser extent with the latter.

Helmut Marko hits back at ‘Wikipedia’ dig
Red Bull’s chief advisor Helmut Marko has hit out at Toto Wolff and Mercedes as the Silver Arrows continue to downplay the achievements of Max Verstappen and Red Bull.
The Mercedes boss claimed that the records being set by Verstappen at the moment are ‘for Wikipedia’ and that nobody is moved by them given the lack of threat posed by team-mate Sergio Perez.
Speaking to Servus TV, Marko hit back saying: “Wikipedia is one of the most read media – maybe someone can tell Wolff. We just go about our business without making up all these stories like they do.
“But we don’t worry about Mercedes, as long as they aren’t serious rivals for us. It’s not insignificant. We are happy, and we are happy to take these records with us. The difference between us and them is that we look at our own team to get the best performance”
