Next week, Formula 1 will head to Las Vegas for its 21st race of the 2023 season with the drivers’ and constructors’ championships already hoovered up by Max Verstappen and Red Bull. A 17-corner, 3.8-mile street circuit has been constructed for the race, which has set the running total at £356 million and climbing.
However, fans attending the race in Nevada will be set back thousands, as the world’s best single-seater drivers do battle down the famous Vegas strip. Cinch’s research suggests that F1 Las Vegas will be the most costly for fans, with a grandstand ticket, average price of food, beer, local transport, and a three-night stay in a hotel costing a whopping $2,321. The Grandstand ticket takes up the majority of the cost, sitting at $2,013 and the average three-day hotel stay, according to the research will set a fan back $290.
That’s $391 more than attending the historic F1 race in Monaco, which has a total setback of $1,930. F1 Las Vegas is also considerably more expensive to attend than the races in Miami and Austin.
It’s also set to be a chilly weekend in Vegas for fans, who will have to wrap up warm. It’s predicted to be just 12 degrees Celsius as lights go out and drivers race into Turn 1. That could add an element of unpredictability, with Verstappen and Red Bull dominating 2023 so far, with the Dutchman registering 17 wins this season. Red Bull have also lost just once in Singapore to Carlos Sainz and Ferrari.
Teams could struggle to get their tyres to optimal temperature and lock-ups could be a common theme, presenting the opportunity to a team outside of Red Bull to seize victory. Haas director of engineering Ayao Komatsu is one of the optimistic F1 figures.
He said: “It’s a very different temperature window, so we’ve got to get the tyres to work. But if I had to choose hot or cold, I’d choose cold conditions at this minute! So hopefully, we can get it to work. I think it’ll be a big challenge for us, especially our team with the tools we’ve got in terms of pre-event simulation, more limited compared with let’s say, Mercedes.”

Vegas could also be one of the last chances American Logan Sargeant gets to win his seat for the 2024 season. The Williams driver has just one F1 championship point and his campaign has been littered with crashes, costing the team large sums of money. “I’m really looking forward to it one: because I used to race there every year in karts as a kid at the super nationals,” Sargeant exclusively told the Daily Express Sport US earlier this year. “So again, it’s similar to Miami. It’s kind of like coming back to very familiar ground and somewhere where it all started, so that’s really cool.
“Obviously, Vegas is Vegas, racing down the strip, I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that. It’s definitely a week I’m really looking forward to – that’s to say the same for all the US Grands Prix – but I think that one is going to be a bit more of a special one.”
