The NRL is looking at an $8 million proposal to make a hybrid clash between rugby league’s Kangaroos and rugby union’s All Blacks a reality.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported the NRL has approached Roosters coach Trent Robinson and Rabbitohs master mentor Wayne Bennett to help get the deal over the line.
Both the NRL and the NZR have been in discussions with the promoter in an attempt to bring the long anticipated concept to fruition.

Seibold denies Fifita rift
NRL: Pete Badel spoke about Anthony Seibold being disappointed in David Fifita signing with Titans but denied a rift.
The promoter Dean Lonergan had a sit down with the NRL’s Project Apollo committee and Bennett and Robinson last week to iron out the kinks in the concept.
Their findings are expected to be put to ARLC Chairman Peter V’landys next month with a possible pay-per-view format a possibility.
The sticking point in negotiations from the NRL’s perspective is the $8 million windfall they are chasing to make the clash worth their while.
The NRL don’t want the concept to be a gimmick and could look to forecast future clashes potentially every four years if it is a success to give the event meaning and prestige.
The biggest unknown surrounding the concept remains the rules, with the potential for key experts on both sides like Bennett and Robinson to design a playing format that is safe for both sides and more importantly entertaining.
The NZR are struggling during the coronavirus crisis and are keen to use the hybrid clash to give their code a much needed cash injection.
“The ball is firmly with the NRL at the moment,” NZR chief executive Mark Robinson said a fortnight ago.
