Ange Postecoglou defends decision to make changes as Tottenham exit Carabao Cup
Ansu Fati has reportedly decided on his next club ahead of a season-long loan stint away from Barcelona. Tottenham and Sevilla are thought to be two of the main teams in the running, and despite Fati’s father urging him to stay in La Liga, it appears as though Spurs have the edge.
Fati has struggled to regain the momentum he had as a 16-year-old with Barca since returning from a devastating injury in 2021. With three La Liga matches played so far this season, the winger has had to make do with substitute appearances in each one of them.
The breakthrough of wonderkid Lamine Yamal is already making Fati’s life difficult in Catalonia. As a result, a temporary spell away from the Nou Camp has been decided as the most logical solution.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham and Sevilla are both in the running to sign Fati for the rest of the campaign.

Fati is believed to have informed Sevilla of his preference to join Spurs, which would mark his first foray into the Premier League. The player’s father would prefer the youngster to stay in the familiar surroundings of La Liga, the report adds.
The Londoners are still in contact with Barcelona over the terms of the deal, which would likely see Tottenham cover 100 per cent of Fati’s salary. Chelsea have also been offered the chance to sign the 20-year-old, while Liverpool have been backed to mount a late move of their own.

Fati has scored 29 goals in 112 first-team matches for La Blaugrana, including 10 in all competitions last season. His rapid ascent to the senior side meant he bypassed the traditional route of playing for Barcelona’s reserve sides during his junior years.
The tricky forward also boasts two goals in nine caps for the Spanish national team. If he gives Spurs the green light, Fati would be faced with displacing the likes of Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski for regular game time out wide.
Manor Solomon, Richarlison and Ivan Perisic are also able to play on the wings. Fati’s arrival would therefore leave manager Ange Postecoglou spoilt for choice during his first season at the helm.
Postecoglou himself could prove an enticing factor for the Barcelona man, with Spurs players speaking highly of the former Celtic boss after his unbeaten Premier League start.
