Arsenal chief Edu can still complete two deals after transfer deadline day

Arsenal sporting director Edu can still complete two deals despite the Premier League transfer window shutting last night. There could still be a couple of departures from the Emirates in the coming days and weeks.

Arsenal focused entirely on shifting players out on transfer deadline day. Rob Holding signed for Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £3.5million.

Left-back Nuno Tavares completed a season-long loan to Nottingham Forest with an option to buy for £12m. Albert Sambi Lokonga has joined Luton on a straight loan, while youngsters Arthur Okonkwo and Omar Rekik, among others, have taken up temporary moves of their own.

Arsenal have kept hold of Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel despite interest from other clubs in recent weeks. There are two other players the Gunners would have preferred to sell by now.

Cedric Soares and Nicolas Pepe are both out in the cold at London Colney. They have been training away from the first team in recent weeks.

However, there is still a chance of them getting a move elsewhere. Football.london says Pepe has interest from the Saudi Pro League, whose window does not shut until next Thursday.

The former club-record signing spent last season on loan at Nice but failed to earn a permanent deal. He only returned to Arsenal’s training ground a couple of weeks ago after not featuring at all in pre-season.

Cedric, meanwhile, had been the subject of interest from Villarreal but a late deal failed to materialise. The Portugal international will now be holding out for a move to a club whose window is still open.

Arsenal’s new kit for 2023/2024 is a stylish twist on a classic as it reinvents that mid-1990s vibe. A truly modern-looking shirt with a homage to the past, the Nike kit also includes a nod to the club’s iconic Invincible’s side in the finer details while catching the eye with the lightning bolt motif

The window in Belgium does not shut until September 6, with Switzerland (September 7), Croatia and Czech Republic (both September 8), Greece (September 11) Turkey and Serbia (both September 15) all other possible options Cedric could look at in Europe. The window in Qatar also does not close until September 18.

Cedric did feature for Arsenal in their first pre-season friendly against Nurnberg in July. However, he did not travel for the tour to the USA and hasn’t been seen in a match-day squad since.

He has made 59 appearances for Arsenal in total since originally joining on loan from Southampton in January 2020. The 31-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham.

Pepe also looks to have played his final game for the Gunners. He scored 27 goals and notched 21 assists in 112 appearances.
