Arsenal chief Edu is said to be determined to see off competition from Italy for Swiss international midfielder Denis Zakaria. The 24-year-old, who has previously been monitored by the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract with Gladbach expires.
Zakaria and his entourage have been reluctant to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga club in a bid to manufacturer an exciting move and it looks like that could be on cards at the end of the campaign.
The defensive midfielder, who likes to get from box-to-box, was snapped up from Young Boys back in 2017.
Since then, he has slowly developed a reputation as one of the best players in the division outside of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
He also featured for his country at this summer’s European Championships having now racked up 38 appearances for his country.

According to BILD, Arsenal are in the running for his signature and the player wants to move to the Premier League.
“That is a clear true,” said reporter Christian Falk when asked if Arsenal are ‘also hot’ for Zakaria.
“There has been interest in the past. Zakaria is on the books of almost every top club in Italy, but he wants the Premier League.
“Arsenal could be a club that can’t afford them anymore but are interested.”

Arsenal are already stacked with options in midfield but the Gunners have been a little light on the ground in that department this season following an injury to Granit Xhaka.
Xhaka usually partners Zakaria in the middle of the park at international level and now the pair could be set to reunite at club level.
However, Arsenal do not have a clear run on the midfielder, who is also hugely admired by Roma.
Jose Mourinho would like to add Zakaria to his squad in January but the Italian giants are expected to try and sign him up upon the expiry of his contract.

Inter Milan are also understood to be keen on Gladbach’s No 8, who has already racked up two goals in five Bundesliga matches this season.
Thomas Partey has finally started to hit form this season for the Gunners while Albert Sambi Lokonga has taken time to settle into his new surroundings.
Central midfield remains an area where Arsenal can improve and by adding Zakaria to their ranks, the Gunners would be doing exactly that.
Gladbach valued Zakaria at £45million as recently as the summer of 2020 but now look set to lose him on a free transfer.
