Arsenal dealt Bissouma blow, Torreira departs, Arteta not in immediate danger

Arsenal have so far spent over £120million this summer on five new signings as Mikel Arteta continues his squad overhaul at the Emirates Stadium.

However, they have been dealt a blow in their hopes of adding Brighton's Yves Bissouma to their midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

In terms of departures, Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira has left the club to join Italian side Fiorentina on a season-long loan deal.

In addition, despite the club's poor start to the Premier League season, it is understood that Arteta's position as manager at the Emirates is not currently under any threat.

Competition for Bissouma

Arsenal now face competition in their bid to sign longstanding target Yves Bissouma from Brighton this summer.

Manchester United reportedly now hold a concrete interest in the Mali international as they look to sign a new midfielder before transfer deadline next week.

Liverpool have also been linked with the club earlier in the window but until now Arsenal were the only club targeting a move for Bissouma.

The Gunners have already completed one signing from Brighton this summer having spent £50million on Ben White and a similar fee would be required if Bissouma was to move as well.

Torreira departs on loan

Midfielder Lucas Torreira has completed a loan move to Fiorentina for a fee of £1.35million with the Italian side having an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Torreira spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he made 26 appearances and scored once as the club won the La Liga title.

The Uruguay international joined the Gunners in 2018 from Sampdoria for £25million but is not a part of Arteta's plans for the future.

Arteta not in immediate danger

Mikel Arteta's position as Arsenal manager is reportedly not under immediate danger despite the club's poor start to the season.

The Gunners have lost both their opening two Premier League matches of the season by 2-0 score-lines to newly promoted Brentford and European champions Chelsea.

This has led to reports that Arteta is under pressure at the Emirates but this was eased by Arsenal's 6-0 win away to West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

If Arteta is to leave the club, then the current favourite to replace him is former Inter Milan and Juventus manager Antonio Conte.
