Arteta says summer transfer window will be 'crucial' for Arsenal
Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has given his former team-mate Edu some advice for the upcoming transfer window. The ex-midfielder says the Gunners’ sporting director should look at completing deals for Brentford striker Ivan Toney and Inter Milan’s World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez.
Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus last summer to bolster their attacking resources following the departure of Alexandre Lacazette. They also tied Eddie Nketiah down to a new contract.
However, Parlour does not think two strikers are enough to take Arsenal to the next level. Folarin Balogun’s future is in doubt after a successful season on loan at Reims in France.
The likes of AC Milan are interested in signing the 21-year-old forward. The addition of Champions League football could see Arteta delve into the market for a new striker, especially if Balogun leaves.

Parlour reckons Toney would be a top signing, even though he is banned until next January after being found guilty of a series of betting offences. Parlour told Net Bet: “I also think a new centre-forward is vital for Arsenal next season, I really do. A player who I’ve always said would do well at Arsenal is Ivan Toney.
“Whether Arsenal can get him given his ban is another matter, but I would be trying really hard to see if there was any chance of a deal there [whether that means joining in January]. He’s really impressed me for Brentford – his work rate and he’s always in the right place to nick a goal.”
Only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane have scored more goals than Toney’s 20 in the Premier League this term. Meanwhile, Martinez has had a successful season at Inter, scoring 24 goals and registering eight assists.
He was also part of the Argentina side that won the World Cup in Qatar in December. Parlour is a huge fan of the 25-year-old and wants to see Edu try his best to sign him.

Parlour added: “Bringing in Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan would also be perfect, he’s the sort of striker Arsenal need to sign. I know Gabriel Jesus has been excellent this season, he had that long spell out injured, but he needs to score a few more goals for Arsenal.
“Eddie Nketiah has done well when he’s been asked, but you need that competition up front for places. We played with four top strikers in the Invincibles team – Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Kanu and Sylvain Wiltord.
“We even had Francis Jeffers a little before that, so we had five strikers! So Arsenal definitely need another striker.
“Any player in the mould of Lautaro Martinez, if he’s interested in coming to Arsenal, then Edu will be working to do the best deal for the club.”
