Carabao Cup fourth round draw date, time, ball numbers and full details

Man Utd got their season back on track with Burnley victory | Football Digest

The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup will take place later this week once all of the third-round fixtures have been played. The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool will be hoping to avoid an early exit over the coming days in order to boost their hopes of going deep into the competition.

United will be the favourites to progress against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford tonight, while Chelsea could struggle when they go up against last year’s semi-finalists Brighton despite having home advantage. Liverpool, meanwhile, will face Championship leaders Leicester City in a game that Jurgen Klopp’s side will have high hopes of winning in front of their own fans at Anfield.

The standout tie of round three will take place on Wednesday night when Manchester City go up against Newcastle United in a mouthwatering clash at St James’ Park. Other matches will see the likes of West Ham, Wolves, Burnley and Luton Town face lower-league opposition and it would not be surprising to see a couple of shocks along the way.

What are the competition rules?

Each team will be permitted to name up to nine substitutes on the bench, although only five changes will be allowed during matches. Substitutions can be made at half-time, which will not count towards the allowed maximum of three opportunities. Teams may also make more than one substitution at each of their three permitted opportunities.

No extra time will be played if the scores are level after 90 minutes in the first five rounds of the Carabao Cup, with an immediate penalty shoot-out taking place instead. VAR will also not be used for the vast majority of the tournament and will only come into play for the semi-finals and final.
