If all goes to plan, Chelsea could be about to sign two great players for Thomas Tuchel. Marina Granovskaia is working hard behind the scenes in west London as the Champions League winners seek further improvement. And Erling Haaland and Declan Rice are both in their sights.

Chelsea won the Champions League last term, while also finishing in the Premier League top four and reaching the FA Cup final.

But, despite those achievements, Tuchel wants more.

A new striker is of interest, with Erling Haaland the chosen one. And there are positive noises coming out when it comes to a potential deal for the Borussia Dortmund hitman, with Eurosport’s Dean Jones saying the player is ‘very interested’ in a move to Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes,” he said on the Football Terrace podcast.

“In the case of Haaland. He’s interested in Chelsea, which is interesting in itself because that wasn’t the case a year ago, probably not even a few months ago.

“He was always thinking he’d join a status club next and Chelsea didn’t really fit in to where he thought he needed to be heading.

“Suddenly they’ve got Tuchel as a coach, they’ve won the Champions League. The club has changed and so has their outlook for the next few seasons.

“So somebody like Haaland is looking at Chelsea and thinking ‘okay this doesn’t have to be a club I’m at for 10 years, it’s a club I can be at for three years then I can go on to those dream clubs.’”

Should Chelsea sign Haaland, they’d be getting a world-class striker. What’s more, the 20-year-old has the potential to get even better.

And they’d certainly be the envy of Europe after the Borussia Dortmund star scored 40 goals across all competitions, enhancing his reputation as one of the planet’s most-promising forwards.

Obviously, a deal is complex.

Especially after Dortmund have already agreed to let Jadon Sancho move to Manchester United in a £73million deal, meaning they’re under no pressure to sell.

But, if there’s any team who can get Haaland out of his situation at the Westfalenstadion, then it’s Chelsea.

The Blues like to do their work discreetly. Just look at last summer, when they signed both Timo Werner and Kai Havertz with remarkable speed and efficiency.

And Roman Abramovich has already shown he’s willing to spend big, coronavirus crisis or not. He spent over £250m last summer and, this time around, big money could be used on Haaland instead.

The Norway international would be a top addition, make no mistake about it. And he’s got the talent and the potential to spur Chelsea onto even greater things.

And then there’s Rice.

On the same channel, Jones revealed there’s a chance he could leave West Ham for less than their £80million asking price – especially with the player himself keen to leave.

“I don’t think Declan Rice would go handing in transfer requests,” said the Eurosport writer.

“I haven’t heard he’s likely to do that.

“I’m sure he’ll look to speak to the club but I don’t think he’s going to aggressively press for a move. Not yet at least, maybe at the end of the window.

“Chelsea will approach this carefully and they’re obviously not going to go in there and put down an £80million offer for Rice.

“But I think that if they were to offer £60m, then that seems a pretty fair offer in this market.

“And it gives West Ham a genuine question to answer. If you go in at £40m, obviously it’s going to be rejected.

“But if you go in at £60m, which will probably be rejected as well, Rice would then go to them and say ‘what do you want? What do you realistically want from me here?’

“Because £60m is a lot of money for West Ham.”

Should Chelsea get Rice, too, they’d be signing one of English football’s most promising midfielders.

Already established at West Ham, the prospect of him partnering up with N’Golo Kante in the heart of Tuchel’s midfield certainly makes for exciting reading.

And with Chelsea eager to land the pair, they could be set for even bigger and better things next year.

If they do, then they definitely stand a great chance of dethroning Manchester City as Premier League champions next time out.
