Chelsea ‘could demand Eden Hazard plus cash’ to let Reece James join Real Madrid

Real Madrid are considering offering Eden Hazard back to Chelsea – and a player-plus-cash deal for Reece James could yet be struck, according to reports in Spain.

Hazard left Stamford Bridge to seal a dream £130million switch to Madrid back in 2019, but over the past two years it has played out more like a nightmare.

The Belgian star's time with Los Blancos has been plagued by injuries, meaning he has been unable to reach his optimum form level.

Yet according to Catalonian outlet El Nacional, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is convinced Hazard would become one of the best players in the world again if he returned to the club.

He is rightfully still regarded as a legend at the Bridge after inspiring the Blues to two Premier League titles, as many Europa Leagues, one FA Cup and League Cup while scoring 110 goals in 352 appearances.

Madrid would not be against him returning to Chelsea either in January or at the end of the season, however they are looking to recoup as much of the £103million they spent on him as possible.

That is where the problem lies; as the west London club are reportedly not prepared to pay more than £35million for Hazard, who is now in the twilight of his career at 30 years old.

Nevertheless, it is believed Bernabeu chiefs are weighing up the possibility of including Hazard in a potential player-plus-cash offer for James, 21.

The latter has emerged as one of the best right-backs in world football since making his Blues debut in 2019, playing a key part in their Champions League final triumph under Thomas Tuchel last season.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti is said to be a huge admirer of him, and he is in need for a new right-back with Dani Carvajal proving far too injury prone to be relied upon.

Los Blancos could therefore use Hazard as bait in a bid for James, although they would likely have to include a sizeable transfer fee as well as the Chelsea legend.

James is under contract until 2025, meaning the Blues could well value him at upwards of £50million.
