Chelsea have submitted a £105million bid for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez which, if accepted, will break the British transfer record.
According to The Telegraph, the Blues are confident they can get the deal over the line before the transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
Chelsea have seen a series of bids for the World Cup-winning Argentine knocked back this month, with Benfica demanding the Premier League club pay Fernandez's release clause, which is believed to be in the region of £105m.

Their latest bid will therefore activate the clause, but the two clubs still have a way to go in negotiating the structure of the deal. Benfica have asked for the entirety of the fee to paid up front, but Chelsea are pushing to pay a large chunk of it in instalments.
Fernandez, who verbally agreed personal terms with the club weeks ago, is keen on the move and is understood to have urged Benfica to do a deal with the London side.

If the deal goes through, it will not only eclipse Chelsea's previous transfer record, the £97.5m they paid to re-sign Romelu Lukaku in 2021, but also beat the £100m Manchester City spent on Jack Grealish that same summer, which is the current British transfer record.
Todd Boehly has already spent a colossal £430m on players since becoming Chelsea owner last year, and the Fernandez deal will see his spending rocket above half-a-billion.
