Chelsea make Man Utd’s Dean Henderson new transfer target to solve keeper issues

Chelsea are targeting Dean Henderson as a solution to their goalkeeping problems.

The Manchester United stopper, who turns 23 this week, has been winning rave reviews all season during his second campaign on loan with high-flying Sheffield United.

But Henderson, expected to be named in the England squad on Thursday, is still unsure where his long-term future lies.

Whether he is wanted back at Old Trafford by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next season remains to be seen.

Despite some high-profile errors from his Spanish keeper David de Gea, the Man United boss is adamant that he is still the world’s best between the posts.

And that may open the door for Chelsea to swoop for the £25million-rated Henderson, who has two years left on his United contract.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is a big admirer – and is set to make his move in the summer and seriously test United’s resolve to keep the former-England Under-21s international.

Lampard’s search for a new keeper stems from some shaky displays by the club’s Spanish keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Arrizabalaga, 26, became the world’s most expensive stopper in August 2018 when the Blues signed him from Athletic Bilbao for a whopping £72m.

But he was axed following a poor run of form in January – and only recalled last week for Chelsea’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Liverpool.
