Chelsea preparing Haaland bid and given asking price Dortmund ‘won’t say no to’

Chelsea remain very keen on superstar striker Erling Haaland – and are even preparing to lodge a big bid.

Borussia Dortmund are reluctant to sell their prolific goalscorer this summer and want to hold onto Haaland for one more season.

Ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, though, Thomas Tuchel is intent on bringing in a top-quality frontman.

Timo Werner hardly did enough to convince the Blues boss last season he can be trusted to lead the line for the European champions.

Haaland, 20, would certainly be a step up in class, and it appears Chelsea are ready to make their move.

According to journalist and former Norway international Jan Age Fjortoft, a bid is being prepared by Chelsea for compatriot Haaland.

He reported on Twitter how a ‘big offer’ is set to be lodged to test Dortmund’s resolve.

The Bundesliga club’s public stance is that they won’t sell and Haaland will be with them in Germany for at least the 2021/22 season.

However, Fjortoft suggests Dortmund would not say no to a substantial bid in the region of €175m.

That equates to £150m, and would be a Premier League record transfer if Chelsea were to meet Dortmund’s supposed asking price.

It is unlikely the Blues would fork out that much on Haaland, so an offer to tempt Dortmund to the table is in the pipeline.

Chelsea are still looking to raise funds for summer signings by letting fringe players go.

Tammy Abraham has no future at Stamford Bridge under Tuchel, with Aston Villa and West Ham both keen, but not at the £40m price Chelsea are looking for.

Olivier Giroud, meanwhile, is on his way to AC Milan, leaving the Blues with few options down the centre for the new season as things stand.
