Cristiano Ronaldo posts emotional update after mum Dolores Aveiro suffers stroke

Cristiano Ronaldo has given an update on the condition of his mother after Dolores Aveiro suffered a stroke.

Ronaldo flew to his home island of Madeira to be by his mother’s side after she was rushed to hospital on Tuesday morning.

The former Real Madrid star is expected to remain with her until Wednesday morning before returning to Italy in time for his side’s clash with Milan.

And Ronaldo took to Twitter to give fans an update on the condition of Dolores, asking for privacy.

The Portuguese star tweeted: “Thank you for all your messages of support for my mum. She is currently stable and recovering in hospital.

“Me and my family would like to thank the medical team looking after her, and kindly ask that we are all given some privacy at this time.”

Mum-of-four Dolores Aveiro is said to have been admitted to Dr Nelio Mendonca Hospital in her native island of Madeira just after 5am this morning.

She had posted a photo on Instagram over the weekend where she looked happy, healthy and relaxed.

The 65-year-old, who has more than two million followers on Instagram, wrote alongside the photo: “Happy Sunday to everyone.”

Her daughter Katia responded with a heart emoticon and the words: “My darling mum.”

The previous day she posted another photo thought to have been taken from the roof terrace of her home on the island with a message saying: “Good weekend to everyone.

Though Dolores did admit to health problems ahead of a trip to Italy last year.

She told a Portuguese TV station in a interview: “I was operated on another breast in Madrid, I’ve had radiotherapy and now I’m fighting for my life.”
