England fans have been criticised for booing the Italian national anthem ahead of the Euro 2020 final.
The Three Lions take on Italy at Wembley with the national anthem of both countries played ahead of kick-off.
Match of the Day host Gary Lineker had been among those begging for England fans to respect the opposition anthem by staying silent.
Fans had booed the German and Danish anthems during clashes earlier in the tournament, and repeated the act on Sunday.
And they were promptly slammed on social media, with plenty tuning in to TV for England's first major final since 1966.
One put on Twitter: "Don't boo a national anthem you idiots!"
While another wrote: "English fans booing during the italian national anthem i will put yous in the f***ing bin".
A third commented: "I was planning to root for England today, but I gotta admit that after seeing a good chunk of the fans in Wembley boo the Italian national anthem, I'm re-thinking things."
While another added: "Can the English fans not boo the Italians during their national anthem that’s just shameful"
While a disgruntled England fan posted: "Why are we booing the Italian's national anthem? We're d***heads. I don't support that."
Manchester United legend Gary Neville had suggested there was nothing wrong with the booing of an opposition anthem.
He had tweeted: "When I played in the different countries and our NA was booed I always took it as the opposition fans trying to unsettle us, drown our fans out and never as some kind of attack on us as people. Same when we did it other teams. Is it really that bad and disrespectful?"
Though Lineker had put: “If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for the final, please, please don’t boo the Italian anthem.
“A/ It’s an absolute belter and worth listening to. B/ It’s bloody rude, disrespectful and utterly classless.”
