Erling Haaland shattered a Fantasy Premier League record while delighting FPL managers once again.
The Norwegian powerhouse scoring goals has become about as inevitable as death and taxes since his arrival at Manchester City in 2022. He broke the record for the most goals scored by a player in a single Premier League season with 36 last term, beating Andy Cole’s tally of 34.
He has somehow improved on his ruthless form again this season. And that has had a major impact on fantasy football, with the 23-year-old becoming the most-captained player in the history of the game.

Haaland was selected as skipper by an astonishing 7,961,047 FPL managers ahead of the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Unsurprisingly, he repaid their faith in him by scoring his eighth goal in just six matches to start the season, powering in a chipped cross with his head.
His ability in front of goal makes him almost a certainty to score every time he takes to the field. It was ahead of the 5-1 win over Fulham on September 2 that Haaland first broke the record for captaincies in FPL, with 7.3million players backing him on that occasion.

His unstoppable form last term pushed fantasy bosses to bump up his price-tag ahead of the 2023/24 season so that players would have to dish out £14m to have him in their side. That took up a hefty 14% of their total budget.
Haaland’s price-tag to start the season has only been equalled by Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie in the past. Not bad company to be in at all, we think.
