BBC pundit and Arsenal hero Ian Wright has urged the Gunners to “go and get” Bayern Munich midfield star Leon Goretzka in the summer, in a move that would considerably boost Mikel Arteta’s options in the middle of the pitch. The Premier League leaders have been linked with a host of midfield options as the Spanish boss clearly wants more options, despite adding Jorginho in January.
Arsenal were prepared to spend considerable money on Brighton’s Moises Caicedo as they had several bids of over £70million turned down by the Seagulls. The Gunners were also named frontrunners in the race for West Ham captain Declan Rice and there has even been talk of both players moving to the Emirates ahead of next season.
However, Wright has named Goretzka as another midfielder that he would like the Gunners to push for in the summer. He believes that the German would be interested in a move to north London, though explained that if wages were an issue then it may be best to look elsewhere.
“In respects of that, with the Champions League and the fact that you know you’re going to earn good money on the deal, there’s enough to entice a top player to come,” Wright said on his Wrighty’s House podcast. “Oh my god, Goretzka, go and get him.

“You can’t tell that that player wouldn’t look at what Arsenal are doing and not fancy that. You can’t tell me that, no way, they would all be intrigued. If it comes to a point where money is a problem then it’s not the right person for the dressing room. You have to make sure that the player Arsenal want to attract is experienced and of the same mind.”
The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in the Bayern Munich midfield this season, but his time at the German giant has not been completely filled with positive experiences as Bild and Jan Aage Fjortoft claimed last year that he was “irritated” over contract negotiations. A new deal was signed, however, which expires in 2026 but Arsenal have had a long-standing interest in Goretzka dating back to his Schalke days.

Arsene Wenger was reportedly a fan before he signed a pre-contractual agreement with Bayern in 2018 and joined on a free transfer, as explained at the time why he turned down Premier League interest to move to the Bundesliga champions.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that this is right step now,” he told Funke Sport. “I felt like I had to get out of my comfort zone to develop. The Champions League also plays a big role in my decision.
“Bayern start with different expectations in the Champions League, with Schalke we are always focusing on surviving the group stages. It was a long decision-making process, I spent a lot of time on it, and I was well prepared for the situation.”
