Ivan Toney and Brentford stunned Liverpool on Saturday night as they held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw in one of the games of the season. Toney didn’t get on the scoresheet this time, but has revealed a Liverpool dream.
Ivan Toney was excellent for Brentford on Saturday night as the Premier League new boys stunned Liverpool in a 3-3 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium.
It’s been a successful start to life in the top-flight for Thomas Frank’s men, who have only lost one of their opening six league fixtures so far this season.
Toney provided a clever flick to assist Ethan Pinnock for Brentford’s opener against Liverpool, and was a constant threat throughout the game, seeing what he thought was his game winning effort ruled out for offside.
The forward didn’t get on the scoresheet on Saturday, but Toney has revealed he has a Liverpool ‘dream’.

Toney already has two Premier League goals to his name do far this season, but highlighted one place he would love to score more than any other in an interview with The Athletic.
The 25-year-old spoke about how Brentford’s trip to Anfield stands out to him out of all of the Premier League fixtures, and named Virgil van Dijk as the best defender that he is likely to come up against.
Toney said: “I think he [van Dijk] will be thinking about how he’s going to get the better of me, more than me getting the better of him!
“He’s human. Let’s just hope I have a worldie that day and he lets me get free. It will be a good challenge. A lot different from what I’m used to and I can’t wait. Scoring in front of the Kop is the dream this season.”

Toney grew up as a Liverpool fan, and Jurgen Klopp’s side were one of a number of Premier League sides who failed to act when the 25-year-old became available at the end of the 2019/20 season.
However, Brentford signed the forward from Peterborough, as they continued their excellent record of recruiting future stars, and Toney will be integral for keeping their Premier League status this season.
The Dutch defender who Toney named as the best had barely been challenged in the Premier League, as Liverpool had only conceded one goal heading into Saturday’s game.
Kai Havertz was the only play to thwart Liverpool’s defence as Chelsea drew 1-1 with the Reds at Anfield, but Klopp’s defence was breached three times against Brentford.
Joel Matip and van Dijk have been Liverpool’s main centre-back pairing so far this season, but Klopp will be concerned about how easily the duo leaked goals against Brentford, with a trip to Porto in the Champions League coming up on Tuesday.
Liverpool also welcome Manchester City to Anfield next Sunday, and Pep Guardiola’s side will be full of confidence after beating Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Brentford have a tough run themselves, as an away trip to high-flying West Ham is followed by two home games against Chelsea and Leicester, so Toney will have to be on top form if they are going to get anything from those games.
However, this is the Premier League, and after already beating Arsenal this season, Brentford have shown that they fear no one, and appear to be relishing the challenge.
