Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Lionel Messi has tested positive for Covid.
With PSG’s season currently on a winter break, Messi has spent time with his family back in Argentina over the Christmas period.
Messi played in PSG’s 1-1 draw with Lorient on December 22 and was expected to feature in their first league game back after the break against Lyon on January 9.
But the 34-year-old is now a doubt after his positive Covid test and is currently in isolation.
PSG have confirmed that Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico and Nathan Bitumazala have also tested positive.
A statement from PSG on Sunday read: ‘They currently respect isolation and are subject to the appropriate health protocol.’
France eased their Covid rules this weekend by announcing that as of Monday, people who test positive and are vaccinated must isolate for seven days instead of 10.
