Liverpool and Manchester United have suffered a blow to their plans for the January transfer window after Ajax began plotting talks with Mino Raiola. The superagent counts Ajax star Ryan Gravenberch among his long client list.
Gravenberch has starred for the Dutch giants since breaking into the side in September 2018, at the age of just 16.
He has been part of a team that has won two Eredivisie and KNVB Cup doubles, as well as becoming a regular for the Netherlands national team.
The 19-year-old has started every game for Ajax so far this season, scoring once and notching an assist as they have won all but two games.
The young midfielder has impressed in Ajax’s start to their Champions League , starting all three matches as they have beaten Sporting Lisbon, Besiktas and Borussia Dortmund.
Gravenberch’s performances for Ajax have seen him attract the attention of several Premier League sides.
JUST IN: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah puts pressure on FSG over new deal
Dutch news website SoccerNews reported in April that United had joined Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to sign him.
Both United and Liverpool are set to be in the market for a new midfielder in upcoming transfer windows.
The Reds allowed Georginio Wijnaldum to depart Anfield for free at the end of last season and are yet to replace him.
United meanwhile have seen their midfield options exposed for a lack of quality in the opening months of the Premier League season.

Gravenberch would likely have been available for a relatively cut-price fee in January and next summer as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract.
As it stands, the midfielder’s deal with Ajax will expire in the summer of 2023, with these next two windows being the final opportunity for his current club to bring in a sizeable fee.
But rather than follow the trend of Ajax academy products of the past departing in big-money moves to the likes of United, Juventus and Barcelona, Gravenberch could be set to stay in Holland.
In a blow to United and Liverpool, De Telegraaf report that Ajax are going to attempt to tie Gravenberch down to a new deal.
It is stated that the Dutch side have contacted his agent Raiola, with talks said to still be at an early stage.
Raiola will likely attempt to bring in as a big a deal as he can for his client, though Ajax are yet to make their first contract offer.
If Gravenberch accepts Ajax’s offer of an extension, it will certainly please his father, who has previously stated his desire for his son to stay in Amsterdam.
“He has to take that last step at Ajax. He just has to and he hasn’t done that yet. He also thinks it is best for him to stay,” Ryan Gravenberch Snr told Ajax Showtime in May.
