Liverpool identify Martin Terrier as Sadio Mane replacement as Bayern close in

Martin Terrier has been identified by Jurgen Klopp as Sadio Mane's potential replacement, as the Senegal captain moves closer to completing a move to Bayern Munich.

After Liverpool lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in the Champions League final, they were handed a further blow after it was discovered that Mane was keen to move on and seek a challenge elsewhere. Although lots of doubts had been raised about Mohamed Salah's future, it is Mane that could be the first to move on.

However, Liverpool won't allow him to leave until they have found a potential replacement, and it looks as though Klopp has identified his man. And off the back of a rampant season in Ligue 1, Terrier could pose a similar threat.

Liverpool don't want to let Mane leave the club, and they were hoping to negotiate a new long-term deal with the forward. But it appears that Mane believes he can achieve his wage demands elsewhere, and Liverpool have to begin looking elsewhere.

And after a 21-goal season with Rennes for 25-year-old Terrier, he could be the one, especially as he poses similar traits to Mane. The Senegalese forward was so valuable to Liverpool due to his goal threat and versatility, but Terrier can also operate out wide or centrally.

And at a height of 6'2, he can also pose a more physical threat, something which is lacking in the Liverpool front line. The Reds may have some of the finest forwards in the world, but they are all smaller, agile players, with no obvious height or presence.

Liverpool are said to be demanding £40million for Mane, who has just one year left on his current deal at the club. Terrier on the other hand has a deal that runs until 2025 with Rennes, although a move should be reasonably straight forward.

Terrier helped Rennes qualify for the Europa League, but something that will excite the Liverpool fans is his active goal involvement. Although Rennes finished fourth, they were the second highest scorers in Ligue 1, only scoring eight less than a rampant Paris Saint Germain all season.

At the age of 25, Terrier would just be one year older than Mane was when he signed for Liverpool back in 2016. But if he can be anywhere near as successful then it could be a masterstroke and a perfect replacement.
