Liverpool make millions from Rodgers signing Allan who never played for them

Liverpool could be set to cash in on a forgotten star due to a masterstroke of business that saw the Reds insert a sell-on fee into his contract.

Allan Rodrigues de Souza left Liverpool to move back to his homeland in 2020.

Brendan Rodgers had brought him to Anfield five years earlier, but he was never available for selection due to work permit issues.

Liverpool were never able to resolve the issues as Allan had numerous loan spells away from Anfield before being sold for £3.2million in 2020.

However, after impressing in Brazil, Europe is calling again for Allan, and it's good news for Liverpool who installed a sell-on clause into the deal.

Jurgen Klopp has previously said: "When I came here, one or two months later Allan was here and I said, ‘who is this?’”

"'He is a player for us and the week before he became a champion in Finland.

"Interesting – why didn’t he play here? Because it’s not possible’. And then I started learning about the FA rules and things like this.

"I saw him in training and I thought ‘oh my God, what can we do to keep this boy here and bring him into the line-up?’ He’s 19 years old, an outstanding talent."

Allan was an integral part of the Atletico Mineiro that defend their Campeonato Mineiro crown, their state championship.

And he was central to the side that also featured Diego Costa who won their second Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A title.

Mineiro have cashed in big on their talent before, and Bernard moved to Shakhtar Donetsk for €25million (£20million) in 2013.
