Liverpool ‘step up bid for Todd Cantwell transfer’ as two players set for exit

Liverpool are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign Norwich City ace Todd Cantwell as they prepare to say goodbye to two midfielders this summer.

Cantwell has also been linked with Manchester United , Manchester City and Tottenham after his impressive performances for the Canaries.

The 22-year-old has scored six goals in 22 Premier League games for Norwich this season – just under a quarter of the team's total strikes in the league.

Norwich are believed to value Cantwell at around £30million, and while he is contracted to them until 2022, he could be on the move regardless of whether the Premier League's bottom team pull off a great escape from relegation.

Liverpool look set to streamline their squad by losing fringe players Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.

And Cantwell is being lined up as a potential replacement for Lallana, according to The Athletic .

England under-21 international Cantwell might not be ready for regular first-team action at Anfield, but would be signed with the future in mind and would provide competition for the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

He could also provide back-up to Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the wide attacking roles.

Lallana's contract with Liverpool expires this summer, and he appears unlikely to be offered a new deal after dropping down the pecking order in recent seasons.
