Rio Ferdinand has urged Liverpool to beat Manchester United to the punch by making an early move for Borussia Dortmund megastar Erling Haaland.
Haaland’s sensational form for Dortmund over the past 18 months has seen him become one of the most coveted strikers in Europe, with a host of huge clubs hopeful of striking a deal for the Norwegian ace in the summer.
The 21-year-old has a remarkable goalscoring record since Dortmund prised him away from RB Salzburg in December 2019, netting 70 goals in just 69 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.
United, Liverpool and Manchester City have all been linked with moves for the potent forward over the past few months, although it’s understood that clubs are waiting for a release clause in Haaland’s contract to kick in next year before making their move.

Dortmund had slapped an eye-watering £135million price tag on Haaland to try and drive off rival interest.
But, it’s anticipated that, due to his release clause, Haaland will be available for between £63m and £84m in the summer; a figure that isn’t likely to quell interest from a host of elite clubs.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that Haaland would be a better fit for Liverpool than any other Premier League team – and has urged Jurgen Klopp to make his move for the striking prodigy.
“I think he suits other teams better [than Manchester City],” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“If I was Liverpool I would take him right now.

“If he goes to Liverpool that’s a devastating front three. I don’t think it’s as hard for him to adapt if he goes to Liverpool. It’s a different system.
“You see Jack Grealish has gone to Man City, [he is a] top player, brilliant player, we all love watching him, but it’s quite hard to adapt and get into that team. Not many players go there and adapt immediately.”
But Ferdinand’s fellow pundit, Reds icon Michael Owen, wasn’t entirely sold on Haaland being the best fit for Liverpool, and instead tipped him to follow in the footsteps of his father, Alf-Inge, by joining Manchester City.

“When Liverpool are at their best they leave a hole up front in the centre. Firmino or Jota will come off [for] those runs inside. I’m not sure Salah would get as many goals if Haaland was in the team,” said Owen.
“It’s an unbelievable prospect but I would’ve thought that Manchester City would be the likeliest [destination].
“I’m not sure if there is a bit of bad blood between Haaland, his agent, obviously his dad [Alf-Inge] playing against Roy Keane at Manchester United.
“I’m not sure Manchester United would fit. [Romelu] Lukaku has just gone to Chelsea and I’m not sure if would fit at Liverpool. Personally I think Man City.”
