Manchester City fans have joked that Harry Kane could face his “old club” Tottenham on the opening day of the Premier League season.
The champions, who lifted the title for the fifth time in the 2020/21 campaign, have found out how their fixtures will pan out for the next year.
And it all starts on the weekend of August 14 with a trip to North London, taking on Spurs as they look to win at their new 60,000-seater stadium for the first time.
But Pep Guardiola could be able to call on a player who knows the area well in Harry Kane, with the Englishman expressing a desire to leave Tottenham.
Commanding a price tag of £150m, having scored 221 goals in 336 appearances for the North London side, City have been touted as the front-runners for the Golden Boot winner’s signature.
And the announcement of a trip to Spurs saw the City faithful joke that the 27-year-old could make an immediate return in different colours.
“Wonder if Harry Kane will be facing his old club Tottenham on the opening day of the season for City. Hmm. We'll see,” one supporter said.

Another commented: “Imagine if Kane actually goes to City? That first game is going to be dreadful.”
While a third made a prediction for the opening-day game, with: “Harry Kane scoring his 3rd in Man City’s 6-0 opening day victory over Spurs.”
And a fourth added: “Harry Kane making his premier league debut for Manchester City against former club Tottenham – It’s f***ing happening ain’t it.
A Spurs fan was left fearing the worst, with: “Please God, I can’t face Kane in a City shirt so soon.”
Another said: You just couldn’t write it. Kane’s first game as a City player will be back against us. For f***s sake, man.”
With a final City supporter simply saying: “Do hope City get Kane now, sets up that first fixture perfectly.”
