Manchester City have been fined £120,000 for surrounding the referee in their draw against Tottenham Hotspur – but Erling Haaland got off scot-free.
On December 3, Pep Guardiola's side were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw at home to Spurs. However, the match is remembered best for the moment referee Simon Hooper called the game back for a foul on Haaland, despite appearing to play the advantage.
The City forward was furious, as he rode the challenge and sent Jack Grealish through on goal in what appeared to be the last chance of the game. Fifteen days after the controversy, the defending Premier League champions learned their fate.

An FA statement read: “Manchester City FC have been fined £120,000 after their players surrounded a match official at the Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester City FC admitted that they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way during the 94th minute. An independent Regulatory Commission imposed this sanction following a hearing.”
Considering the recent controversies surrounding dissent, many rival fans think last season's Treble winners got away with it. A Manchester United fan, who was still furious with the two quick-fire yellow cards Diogo Dalot was given during their 0-0 draw with Liverpool, wrote: "Meanwhile our player gets a red card for correctly claiming a throw in."
A Liverpool supporter then tweeted: "Virgil van Dijk nearly got fined that himself and got an extra ban," referencing the red card the Dutch defender was given during Liverpool's victory over Newcastle United this season.

"These players had their hands on an official and didn’t Haaland tell him to F*** off," another rival wrote, before another United fan commented: "Not even a yellow card in sight for this. Dalot does it and gets 2 yellows. United fine incoming for that as well I’m sure."
Still raging at Dalot's red card, a fourth member of the United faithful added: "Yet Man City players surround the ref, yell at the ref, touch the ref and the club gets fined £120,000."

Dalot will be suspended for one match as a result of his overzealous protestations against the decision. While Haaland is not suspended, he is currently out of action, nursing a foot injury.
He has missed the Premier League clashes against Luton Town and Crystal Palace, as well as City's 3-2 away victory against Red Star Belgrade.
