Man Utd alerted over transfer target who Maurizio Sarri ‘thinks is arrogant’

Manchester United have been put on red alert after Maurizio Sarri fell out with Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with the midfielder now set to be sold in January.

The Serbian has starred for Lazio since joining from Genk in 2015, helping them to win the Coppa Italia in 2019.

He had appeared to continue to be one of the Serie A side’s most important players this term, scoring five goals and notching five assists, as well as being named captain on three occasions.

Despite his contribution though, it has been a challenging campaign for Lazio, who find themselves eighth in the Italian top-flight.

Sarri took over from Simone Inzaghi as Lazio boss in the summer, but he could now be responsible for banishing one of the club’s top stars.

According to TuttoMercato, Sarri’s relationship with Milinkovic-Savic is at an ‘all-time low’ with the midfielder having been frozen out of the team.

It is stated that the Serbian international will be ‘excluded’ from the Lazio squad that will travel to newly-promoted Venezia on Wednesday.

Italian newspaper Il Messaggero report that the deterioration in the relationship relates to Sarri’s view that Milinkovic-Savic has behaved in a ‘presumptuous and arrogant manner’.

Who should be Manchester United's top target in the January transfer window? Let us know in the comments section…

Though he still has two years remaining on his contract, a summer departure is all but certain, with Lazio also ready to sell him in January.

That has alerted United, who are understood to be in the market for a new midfielder with Paul Pogba likely to leave at the end of the season.

The French international’s contract expires in the summer and he has shown no indication that he will sign a new deal.

Central midfield has been a problem position for the Red Devils this season, with none of their current options showing the required quality.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick is thought to have made signing a new midfielder a priority for the January window, with the German now handed the chance to act on United’s long-held interest in Milinkovic-Savic.
