Manchester United and Arsenal have been put on red alert after Lisandro Martinez reportedly asked to leave current club Ajax.
The Argentina international, 24, is a top target for both Erik ten Hag and Mikel Arteta in the summer transfer window, though it is believed Man United have the edge over their Premier League rivals due to Martinez's eagerness to work under his former boss.
Already knocking back a £34million bid from the Gunners, Ajax have slapped a £43m price-tag on their star defender in the hope of perturbing interest elsewhere – but now Martinez is taking matters into his own hands.

According to talkSPORT, the 5ft 9 centre-back has asked Ajax to leave in the summer transfer window. The Dutch champions have already seen Sebastian Haller and Ryan Gravenberch head to the Bundesliga, joining Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively, and Martinez's request will come as a huge blow.
United have already made a £39.6m bid for the Ajax star, still £4.4m short of the asking price, in the hope of negotiating a deal to suit both parties with Ten Hag keen to maintain positive relationships with his former club.

With star man Cristiano Ronaldo now expected to leave the club, the newly installed boss is plotting to raid his former club for not only Martinez but Brazilian starlet Antony. Man Utd have also tabled a £51m bid for the 22-year-old as Ten Hag's summer rebuild starts to take shape.
Tyrell Malacia has joined as Ten Hag's first arrival as United boss. The marauding left-back, 22, has penned a five-year deal at Old Trafford after joining from Feyenoord in an initial £13m deal. Malacia is expected to battle it out with Luke Shaw for a starting berth at Old Trafford whilst Alex Telles will depart following a training ground bust-up.
