Manchester United have condemned footage showing fans subjecting Jesse Lingard to a torrent of abuse as he boarded the team bus after their 3-0 FA Cup win at Derby.
Lingard was targeted at Pride Park, and United have indicated they will be contacting Derby officials to see if they assist them in identifying those responsible for the appalling abuse directed at Lingard, 27.
Old Trafford sources have indicated the club are taking the matter seriously, with the nature of the abuse having crossed a line, and those responsible facing serious sanctions if identified.
Insults hurled at Lingard included: “Jesse, you're s***, Jesse you're w***. Jesse you're s***, Jesse f*** off”, while one fan was also heard to shout “zero goals and assists in 2019” towards the midfielder.
Lingard's United team-mate, Luke Shaw, appeared in the doorframe of the bus and confronted fans after hearing the abuse and insults as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side prepared to leave the stadium.
The incident came just 24 hours after Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier climbed into the stands at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to tackle fans involved in an altercation with his brother Patrick after Spurs lost on penalties to Norwich in the FA Cup.
United extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games ahead of Sunday's derby visit of Manchester City and remain in the hunt for the FA Cup, Europa League and a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Solskjaer said: "Today was the highest priority because we're not going to pick and choose games or competitions. We have to go for everything, that's what it is to be at Manchester United .
"It's another away draw, we're use to that now. Is it a seventh in a row? We'll have to do it the hard way if want to go all the way. We've got a chance now.
