Daniel Sturridge has backed Rasmus Hojlund to find form at Manchester United as his wait for a Premier League goal goes on.
Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford in the summer in a £72million deal to be Erik ten Hag’s figurehead of the frontline, but he’s so far struggling to find his feet, although it’s not for a lack of trying. The 20-year-old has scored three goals in three games in the Champions League but is yet to score in any of his eight league games for his new club.
It has seen him receive flack in what’s been a drab season for Ten Hag’s side. But the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker backed the Denmark international to find his feet when he and his team-mates get on the same wavelength.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s chaotic win at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday Night Football, Sturridge said: 'It will change, he [Hojlund] has to have conversations with his team-mates letting them know what he likes, he has to have these conversations letting them know ‘this is what I'm like get the ball here and feed me in’.
“The manager has his ideas of how he wants his team to play. In the end he is a project and not the perfect striker right now, not the finished article. When he gets these opportunities, he is desperate to show he has the capabilities to score goals at a big club like United.

“Maybe Hojlund over time will get to a place saying I have to create things for myself and get a shot away, at the moment there's not a lot there with goals and shots. It doesn't look good but I don't think it creates a total picture. It's very easy to criticise him when we've not seen him miss loads of chances.”
United fans lapped up Sturridge’s support of their marksman, one comment said: “Good on Sturridge for backing him." A second wrote: “Fair play to Daniel Sturridge for sticking to his guns & giving a very balanced opinion on why the kids not firing at Utd just yet”, while a third added: “Thank the lord Sturridge is pointing this out.”
Jamie Carragher also believes that the goalscoring determination from Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes has seen Hojlund missing out in supply. But used the example of Darwin Nunez who has scored four league goals this season, and is certainly getting more chances that he’s also putting over the bar.
He added: "Because United are struggling, Rashford and Fernandes are desperate to score and not helping him, like Nunez last season it's just whether you see him click into gear."
