Manchester United fans are ecstatic with reports of their club now being favourites to sign club legend Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of rivals Manchester City.
There had been growing speculation since Thursday that the 36-year-old would break Man United hearts by signing for the Premier League champions in a repeat of the infamous Carlos Tevez saga.
But recent developments suggest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are now close to signing their former star, with the manager stating that if Ronaldo "was ever going to move away from Juventus, he knows we are here”.
Journalist Simon Stone has also added fuel to the fire, reporting rivals City are now out of the race and that talks are now in an “advanced stage” between Ronaldo and United.
And the Red Devils faithful are over the moon at his likely return, having gone from burning his old United shirts to singing their former winger’s praises on social media.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “This is my dream come true if Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford.
“Not just about his capability to play well but it is just his football home so he needs to end here at last.”
He was joined by one supporter who said: “The boy is coming home. Welcome back Ronaldo. Manchester United was always your home.”
Meanwhile, another added: “I’ve never been more invested in something I have absolutely no control over. Taken the afternoon off work to refresh my Twitter feed.”

Another fan targeted rivals City over the snub, saying: "Man City are about to bottle signing Messi, Kane and Ronaldo all in the same transfer window."
United had been linked with the Portugal captain this summer but the transfer had not seemed realistic due to Ronaldo appearing happy at Juventus.
But several factors such as Lionel Messi’s transfer to Champions League hopefuls Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri’s reluctance to involve Ronaldo are believed to have accelerated his departure.
And it appears United were unwilling to let City claim their club icon, with historic manager Sir Alex Ferguson personally phoning Ronaldo in an attempt to convince him to snub their rivals.
