Man Utd fans hail "bright spark" Sancho who looks different player under Carrick

Manchester United fans thoroughly enjoyed seeing goalscorer Jadon Sancho’s performance against Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The youngster secured his first goal as a Red Devils player, as United earned their place in the Round of 16 in the competition following a 2-0 victory in Spain.

Supporters hailed Sancho as one of the standout performers of the game – a far cry from his previous form since joining from Borussia Dortmund for £74million over the summer.

Under former Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the attacker struggled to find himself in starting eleven, and when he did play, his displays were rather lacking.

However, Sancho’s wicked strike from inside the box to put United two goals ahead in the second half had fans foaming at the mouths that the winger has been unlocked by temporary manager Michael Carrick.

One fan wrote online: “Spend the last 20 minutes getting the ball to Jadon Sancho. He's been our bright spark the whole game.”

Another simply stated: “We have unlocked Jadon Sancho.”

A third stated: “A clean sheet and a Sancho goal finally after being freed from the shackles. Tears in my eyes.”

One wrote: “Man United must be delighted to have Jadon Sancho finally playing like Jadon Sancho once again.”

A last one said: “Jadon Sancho has arrived.”

United opened the scoring against Unai Emery’s men with Cristiano Ronaldo making a swift lob in the second half.

Sancho’s shot, using the outside of his boot, flew into the top corner, as a more conservative and structured United pushed past the reigning Europa League champions and into the knockout stages.

Captain Harry Maguire said to BT Sport after the game: "It's massive for our season. The last couple of months have been nowhere near good enough and we needed to get a result for our season and our fans. We need to make sure that's just the start and we push on.

"It was tough and edgy in the first half. It was important to stay in the game and I thought the lads who came off the bench really helped us push on and the second-half performance was really good."
