Man Utd flop banned from club for ‘poor performance’ just 98 days after signing

Former Manchester United flop Eric Bailly has been sacked by Besiktas.

The Ivory Coast international, who moved to Old Trafford back in 2016 for £30million from La Liga side Villarreal, left Man United this past summer having spent the previous campaign on loan at Marseille. In September, it was confirmed the 29-year-old had joined Besiktas.

But now, just 98 days after his arrival in Turkey, Bailly has had his contract torn up by the Turkish Super Lig side who have also sacked four other players too. Alongside Bailly, Vincent Aboubakar, Valentin Rosier, Rachid Ghezzal and Jean Onana have also been handed their marching orders by Besiktas.

And given Bailly played 90 minutes for Besiktas just two days ago in their 3-1 defeat to Fenerbahce, the move comes as a bit of a surprise. A club statement read: "Information from our club. 5 players from our Football A Team have been excluded from the squad.

"Our Football Teams General Coordinator Samet Aybaba; He announced that Vincent Aboubakar, Valentin Rosier, Eric Bailly, Rachid Ghezzal and Jean Onana were excluded from the squad due to poor performance and incompatibility within the team.

They added: "Our work on the new staff structure continues. We respectfully present it to the public." Prior to his sacking, Bailly had made just eight appearances for Besiktas, who currently sit fifth in the league, 14 points off Fenerbahce and Galatasaray who top the table on 40 points.

However, it seems as though his exit from the Turkish side was already in the offing last month, after Bailly himself was hooked at half-time during Besiktas' clash with Antalyaspor due to his on-field behaviour. The defender was caught on camera having a heated exchange with team-mate Tayfur Bingol, which led to him being taken off by Burak Yilmaz.

""There was a problem with Eric Bailly during the half-time," Yilmaz said after the game, which Besiktas lost 3-2. "That's why I took him off. There is no injury situation. I took him out of the game due to an inappropriate move."
