Man Utd are making huge changes ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe coming into the club | Football Digest
Manchester United are expected to announce that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reached an agreement with the Glazer family to purchase a 25 per cent stake as early as this week. Once the INEOS founder enters power at Old Trafford, he is set to impose a welcome change from the Glazers’ turbulent 18-year rule over the club’s football operations.
United’s majority owners will reportedly transfer sporting control over to Sir Jim, who will have the freedom to rebuild the department to his vision.
Chief executive Richard Arnold’s departure is likely one of numerous significant hierarchy changes in the coming months as a direct result.
INEOS’ blueprint extends across several sports, including football, F1, cycling, rugby and sailing.
While the petrochemicals giant’s sporting empire has achieved mixed success, the appointment of Francesco Farioli as OGC Nice head coach looks like one of Sir Jim’s finest.
Nice are unbeaten in 12 Ligue 1 games and sit one point off top spot, having conceded just four goals.
Away wins at title rivals Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco are among impressive results this season.

Farioli – only 34 – was an inspired appointment, supported by Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc, two figures set to enter key roles at United.
The Italian has expressed his delight with the current Nice setup, which involves regular contact with Sir Jim and his INEOS chiefs to ensure their strategy remains aligned.
“I like to listen to the feedback I receive because it’s good to have different perspectives and different input. Afterwards, I have freedom in the decisions on the pitch,” Farioli told the Telegraph.
“In other things, a bit more for the medium and long term, there is always an open door. We share our opinions, and we have periodic, day-by-day or weekly conversations.

“But also with the club, we have a monthly review of everything with all the parts involved – about the strategy, about the present and also about the future.
“The ambitions of the club are already quite big, with the desire to bring the team back to Europe and to be constantly in European competition. This is the target, to dream big.”
Regular contact with club higher-ups will likely be a welcome change for Erik ten Hag and other staff, who the Glazers have reportedly kept in the dark throughout the year-long takeover process.
With the Glazers set to stick to the commercial side of United, Sir Jim can act as the face of a streamlined sporting strategy, which the club have gone without throughout a decade in which they’ve underperformed.
