The agent of River Plate and Argentina frontman Julian Alvarez is reportedly on his way to Europe for several transfer meetings regarding the future of his client. The 21-year-old, who netted 20 times in 35 outings this season in the Argentine Primera Division, is considered to be among the brightest young talents in South America.

He now looks set to become the latest Argentine centre-forward to make the move to Europe following some iconic names including the likes of Sergio Aguero, Hernan Crespo and Gabriel Batistuta.

Alvarez is already one of the most coveted forwards in world football given the speed of his development.

He is also understood to have a release clause in the region of £17million.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United appear to be the frontrunners for his signature on the basis of recent reports.

Yet according to South American journalist Roberto Rojas, the race is well and truly wide open.

It’s claimed Alvarez’s agent Fernando Hidalgo is now travelling to Europe to hold meetings in Manchester, London, Madrid and Milan.

The development would suggest United are not the only English club in the running.

United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has now confirmed that Edinson Cavani will not be leaving the club this January.

Barcelona were said to be targeting the Uruguay international this month but the Red Devils will not entertain his exit.

Cavani’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season when he looks set to return to South America.

Alvarez represents a fine replacement with the several clubs now expected to do battle for his services.

Argentina have already capped their young star five times after handing him his senior debut in 2021.

He can also operate from out wide, something that could be of huge appeal to any potential suitors.

One United attacker who is seemingly heading for the exit door is Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has struggled to break his way into the starting XI this season after a huge increase in competition for places at Old Trafford.

Sevilla have already approached United about a potential loan but the offer was rejected.
