‘The 7-0 was a freak result!’ | Jurgen Klopp previews Liverpool’s clash with Man Utd
Manchester United could offer Graham Potter the perfect welcoming present in the shape of Serhou Guirassy if Erik ten Hag is sacked. The Red Devils boss is coming under increased pressure in the Old Trafford dugout following his side’s poor start to the season, prompting conversations about possible replacements.
The Red Devils are sitting in sixth place in the Premier League and will need to improve markedly if they are to push for the Champions League positions. Ten Hag’s side looks drained of confidence and motivation, with reports emerging about the dressing room being torn under his management.
A January transfer window reshuffle is expected at United as a result, with numerous fringe stars already positioning themselves for exits. Several marquee signings are also anticipated at the Theatre of Dreams, with reinforcements required at both ends of the pitch due to the exodus.
Though any acquisitions made could have ex-Chelsea manager Potter in mind given that he is waiting in the wings for an opportunity to succeed Ten Hag. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly shortlisted the former Brighton boss as his ideal United manager and the INEOS owner could be tempted to conduct United’s transfer business with the 48-year-old in mind.

Stuttgart star Guirassy is among the Red Devils’ shortlist of striker targets heading into January, and he is a player that Potter is well aware of and could be a great fit for the club’s potential long-term future.
Whilst playing for Ligue 1 side Amiens in 2020, Potter and Brighton’s recruitment team identified Guirassy as a player who had the potential to improve markedly and he was consequently shortlisted as a target. However, a deal never materialised, with Brighton turning their attention to Danny Welbeck instead.

Guirassy has improved significantly since his time at Amiens but his profile is not too dissimilar to the player that Potter was keen to welcome to his ranks at the Amex Stadium. Thus, signing a player that a potential future manager has already eyed could be viewed as a smart piece of business by Ratcliffe and the Glazers.
According to The Mirror, United have already made contact with Guirassy’s entourage to discuss a move and personal terms, and that could put them in a strong position to strike a deal early in January before other clubs pounce, with numerous other outfits eyeing his £15million release clause. Arsenal and Tottenham are also said to be among his admirers, but the prospect of becoming United’s No. 9 could prove decisive if a wage war breaks out with other contracts on the table.
