Man Utd’s £81m of hidden talent that could give massive boost to transfer budget

Manchester United have £81m worth of hidden talent that could give their transfer budget a massive boost.

Having splashed the cash in the summer, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were expected to challenge for a first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement but poor performances have seen them slide to sixth in the table.

Over £140m was spent on the signings of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

But the Red Devils are on a dire run having won just four of their last six Premier League matches amid reports Solskjaer is close to facing the axe.

Yet Man Utd could look to offload several fringe players in January which may afford the Norwegian more time in the dugout.

Solskajer has constantly harked on about his need for a defensive midfielder with neither Fred, Scott McTominay nor Nemanja Matic trusted to play the holding role on their own.

Figures calculated using transfermrkt suggest the Red Devils may be able to raise £81m by selling outcasted players either at the club or elsewhere on loan.

By flogging Phil Jones (£4.5m), Axel Tuanzebe (£7.2m), Brandon Williams (£9m), Juan Mata (£3.6m), Jesse Lingard (£19.8m), Andreas Pereira (£7.2m), Nemanja Matic (£7.2m) and Donny van de Beek (£22.5m), Solskjaer could give a hefty boost to his transfer kitty.

Matic would be the biggest miss; the Serbian is the only player on this list to have started a Premier League match for United this season.

But with Solskjaer keen on adding another defensive midfielder to his ranks, the 33-year-old is the obvious departure.
