Rodri etched his name into club history by scoring the winner as Manchester City won the Champions League for the first time and completed the Treble.

The Spaniard struck midway through the second half of a tense final against Inter Milan in Istanbul. City were well short of their brilliant best, but that didn’t matter as they eventually got their hands on the most coveted trophy in club football.

Rodri will be the toast of the blue half of Manchester. It will also be a poignant moment for his long-term girlfriend, Laura. The pair aren’t your average footballer-WAG couple, having met at university back in Spain.

Rodri has a degree in Management and Business Administration while Laura is a medical student who is training to become a surgeon.

Unlike many WAGS, who are extremely active on social media, racking up thousands of followers, Laura keeps her private life quiet. However, she and he football beau did open up a little about their relationship during an interview with Man City’s in-house media last year.

The pair joked how Laura, despite her career, was a little squeamish and had reacted with horror when Rodri cut his finger in the kitchen on one occasion.

The piece also featured a clip of Laura going crazy after seeing her partner score a goal against Arsenal, so one wonders how she reacted to him scoring the most important goal in City’s history.

Speaking after the final, an emotional Rodri said: “I wasn’t good in the first half – I was playing s***, to be honest, and then we talk about mentality, I just said to myself, ‘You have to calm the situation’. At the end, I scored a goal. Unbelievable.”

He added: “I’m emotional. This is a dream come true. All these guys deserve, all these guys around here have been waiting I don’t know how many years, 20, 30 40. I’ve been here just four years, but they deserve, we deserve.

“It wasn’t easy. What a team we faced, unbelievable they way they defend, the way they counter-attack, they deserve also credit because they are a great team.”
