Sky Sports duo Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher briefly swapped football for netball as they made a cameo ahead of Monday Night Football.

But before taking their places to analyse the action at St James' Park and debate their end of season awards, Neville and Carragher made an appearance covering a less familiar sport. The duo joined presenter Di Stewart on the sofa ahead of Leeds Rhinos' narrow victory over Severn Stars.

Neville showed off his impressive knowledge of netball, with sister Tracey representing England as a player before leading them as a coach to the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Sky Sports commentator and pundit gave his verdict on England's chances of repeating the feat this summer in Birmingham, while firing a cheeky dig at his sister.

He said: "I love watching them play, it's probably the only sport I watch other than football. It was an amazing achievement last time, but the team to be fair have done really well since and I'm hopeful.

"I know it's tough against Australia and New Zealand, I'm hopeful they can do it. The new coach is doing very well, but obviously the big moment comes in the tournament. Hopefully she'll make an improvement on the last coach!"

Neville was also asked about league leaders Manchester Thunder, and explained why Ellie Cardwell is his favourite player. He said: "Brilliantly talented, makes the game look easy and effortless, and she's pushing those goal attack and goal shooters for England. I think she could break in."

Perhaps unfairly in contrast, Carragher struggled to match his co-host's knowledge of the sport. The former Liverpool captain managed to name five of the seven positions, before requiring assistance from Stewart for wing attack and goal defence.

The pair were then asked for their predictions for the night's clash between Rhinos and the Stars, with Carragher selecting the latter because they 'sounded better'. However, he was dismayed seconds later to see the side bottom of the table, and the Rhinos would go on to pick up a 56-55 win.
