Callum Wilson is expected to be sidelined until the end of December at Newcastle’s injury crisis mounts ahead of a busy run of fixtures.
Wilson was substituted at half-time of Newcastle’s 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe revealed Wilson had been suffering from a ‘tight hamstring’.
The injury ruled Wilson out of featuring in Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat by Bournemouth on Sunday, with the striker also forced to withdraw from the England squad.
Howe had claimed Wilson could miss a ‘number of weeks’, with the forward having since had a scan to assess the issue.

According to the Telegraph, Wilson is expected to miss between four to six weeks with a hamstring injury and will likely return at the end of December.
‘Unfortunately, a recent setback has meant I had to withdraw from the squad that I’d worked so hard to be a part of,’ Wilson said when pulling out of the England squad.
‘Strong walls shake but never collapse, so for sure I’ll be back soon. Good luck to the lads in the upcoming fixtures.’
The loss of Wilson, who has scored seven goals this season, will be a significant blow to Newcastle ahead of their crunch Champions League group stage matches against PSG and AC Milan.
Howe’s injury hit side also face Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham in the Premier League over the next month.
As it stands, the Magpies head coach is without 10 first-team players due to injury issues.
Sandro Tonali is also suspended, while on-loan defender Lewis Hall will be unable to face his parent club Chelsea in their next fixture, meaning Howe could be without 12 first-team stars.
Newcastle had been forced to play with Anthony Gordon in a makeshift striker role against Bournemouth, with Alexander Isak having been absent due to a groin injury.

Reports have claimed Newcastle are fearful defender Sven Botman could require a knee operation, with the Dutchman having missed their last 10 matches.
Javi Manquillo, Harvey Barnes, Elliot Anderson, Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Jacob Murphy all missed the defeat against Bournemouth due to injury, with Sandro Tonali is serving a 10-month ban.
Newcastle currently lie seventh in Premier League, six points adrift of the top four places.
Howe’s side will face Chelsea at home after the international break, before a crunch Champions League tie against PSG with the Magpies bottom of the group but two points behind the French champions in second.
