Newcastle look set to open their lavish transfer business this month by moving for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, with the mega-rich club having reportedly tabled a ‘monster offer’ for him.
Dembele, 24, is able to walk away from the Nou Camp for free at the end of the season and, despite his injury woes, a host of elite clubs from across the globe are certain to be keen to swoop.
One of these sides is said to be Newcastle, who are now able to invest their hefty war chest after being taken over by a Saudi-backed consortium.

In an ambitious raid, the Tyneside outfit are thought to have proposed a sizeable salary package for Dembele, as claimed by journalist Rudy Galetti.
Talks between the winger and Barcelona have hit the buffers, and it has been widely reported that the superstar has rejected an offer of a new deal in Catalonia.
As such, he is able to thrash out a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from today, and Newcastle – now the richest side in the world – are firmly in the chase.
The Sun have said that the former Borussia Dortmund man has proposals from two Premier League sides, and have gone as far as reporting that contact has been made between Newcastle and Dembele’s representatives.

Eddie Howe will be keen to land Dembele to kickstart his side’s Premier League relegation fight
However, their offer will have to be sizeable, with Marca revealing that the player’s agent is holding out for £485,000-per-week for his client to stay at Barcelona.
Their demands don’t stop there, with the cash-strapped LaLiga giants also facing the prospect of splashing out £12.5million in agent fees and a £25m signing bonus.
To little surprise, that figure has been quoted as being ‘out of the possibility’, with Barcelona having been keen to tie down Dembele to reduced terms.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will be determined to bring in a statement signing in this window, in the hope of kickstarting their fight to avoid relegation.
